DLA to PIP conversions

DWP have recently said that DLA to PIP conversions have now been suspended. Read on for more…

According to information sent to advice organisations, DWP have stopped work on all DLA to PIP conversions, ie where people on DLA have to re-apply for PIP. This includes conversions which are already under way – DWP say that people do not have to proceed with any action because their DLA awards will not be stopped but extended until after the Covid-19 crisis is over.

If you are still on DLA and *haven’t* had a letter from DWP telling you that you have to apply for PIP, you don’t need to do anything – your DLA award will continue and you won’t get a letter during the Covid-19 crisis.

If you are on DLA and *have* had a letter telling you to apply for PIP, your application for PIP will be suspended whatever stage it has reached, and your DLA will continue until after the Covid-19 crisis. This will apply whether you have sent back a form or not, or been to a face-to-face assessment or not, or if you are still waiting for DWP’s final decision after an assessment.

If you were on DLA and are now on PIP, this change won’t affect you. If you’ve recently asked for a mandatory reconsideration (MR) or appealed against the level of your PIP award, you still need to go through that process.

If you lost DLA when assessed for PIP, DWP will NOT reinstate your DLA. You still have to go through the MR and appeal process to get PIP.
